Why Esthetics?

Skincare has been a passion of mine since I was young girl.

In my circle of friends I was the one at the makeup counter, always trying new skincare and putting on masks all the time! To this day, out of that same group of friends, I am still the one with the skincare routine.

I worked in the corporate world for 34 years. I had a very comfortable life, however, skincare was always calling me. A couple of years ago my husband said to me, “You need to really look into Esthetics, we will manage, it’s only 6 months”. I asked people about the school and everyone recommended Capitol, I heard the curriculum was very thorough and they had a great reputation. It took a lot of planning and saving, but I did it… I enrolled!

Before I knew it, I was in Esthetics orientation learning about what my next six months was going to look like. During orientation they talked about the Elite program, so I went home and told my husband I was going to be part of it. Fast forward five months and here I am, a few weeks away from graduation and I have already met all the scholarship requirements! For me, being on Elite was definitely a personal challenge.

I already knew how passionate I was about skincare, however for me, I looked at school as if it was my business, I need clients, I need them to be satisfied, and I want them to come back. I would say most people get a facial because there is something they want to improve or change and of course they feel amazing. Facials feels good and your skin looks better after receiving one, however if a client does not use a good home care regime they won’t see lasting results. This is why the service and retail are so important. Clients need to be educated on a good skincare line and be taught how to use it at home.

I have been asked many times by my classmates, “how do you do it, how have you been so successful?’. I’m not sure I really have a strategy. I love people and knowing I can help them, I am passionate about it, and most importantly… I believe in it. If my clients leave knowing how to properly care for their skin, feeling and looking wonderful, then I have done my job.

My most memorable and rewarding experience thus far was a client who came in and was going through chemo, she fell asleep during her facial and when I was all done, she said to me, “I forgot where I was, I have not relaxed like that for months”. That brought tears to my eyes… what a compliment. I never left my corporate job feeling that good at the end of the day.

The Esthetics program at Capitol is truly wonderful, you learn so much in only six months. The instructors and staff are so knowledgeable and helpful. They will teach you what you need to know to be successful once you graduate and they will be great resource as well.
